THE PRINCIPAL

Barry Hopkinson, B.Ag.Com, is a graduate of Lincoln University, having majored in economics and rural property management. He has a wealth of experience, sound reputation and a record of achievement in major areas of the rural sector of New Zealand’s economy.

Practical working experience from an early age led to extensive experience in rural property acquisition, development, management and produce marketing.

As farm properties supervisor for New Zealand’s largest meat processing and exporting company, he was involved in property administration, land acquisitions, large scale farm development, forestry, leasing, cropping, feedlotting, beef management, production, processing and marketing.

Subsequently he instigated, became a partner in and managed a large horticultural development, out of which grew New Zealand’s first publicly listed horticultural company - Grocorp Pacific Limited. As Grocorp’s founding Managing Director, Barry Hopkinson was directly responsible for the acquisition and/or development of the thirty different land-based projects either owned or managed by the company.

He worked overseas for one of NZ’s major corporates in agribusiness and property before setting up his consulting business in New Zealand. He is well known and respected throughout New Zealand’s rural sector and is in a position to engage specialists whose complementary skills may be required for individual projects.

Till recently, he resided on and operated from a large diversified Canterbury foothills property owned in partnership with an offshore partner. He brings to his consulting a genuine hands-on understanding of rural property management.

When not travelling throughout New Zealand, he takes every opportunity to horse trek in the High Country of the South Island.
